LOW EARTH ORBIT SATELLITES

Let's briefly talk about the primary use of artificial satellites. There are five main functions, scientific investigation, earth observation, communications, navigation, and military spying. A natural satellite is an astronomical body that orbits a planet or small solar system. Speaking of orbits, the earth's orbit consists of three sections.

A geostationary earth orbit is the circular orbit at 35,786 kilometers above the Earth's equator.

Medium earth orbit consists of the area 8000 to 20000 kilometers above the Earth's equator.

Low Earth orbit consists of the circular orbit 500 to 2000 kilometers above the equator. This orbit is important to Educational Technology because when it comes to providing internet and telecommunication access to isolated and rural areas, having artificial satellites based here is the viable option. In 2019 SpaceX starting launching the first of over 7000 small satellites into low earth orbit. The service is called Starlink. They will communicate with land based transmitters to provide wide internet and communication coverage. Watch this video for in depth lesson on how Starlink works.
