Remote Exam Monitoring


Online learning has increased dramaticaly in the last two decades, From grades K-12, college level, university and graduate school, at facilities all over the world. Anyone, anywhere with an internet connection and a device can take classes online. Many free, many from top Ivy League schools. Learning has no limits.




Look at these numbers courtsey of The Forbes Advisor, March 22, 2024:


Online colleges and universities enroll nearly 1.1 million students—about 6% of all U.S. postsecondary learners.

  • In 2021, about 53% of all postsecondary degree seekers in the U.S. took at least some online classes. Around 26% studied exclusively online.

  • Approximately 65% of students at online schools identify as female.

  • Nearly 7.5 million U.S. students take online classes at public higher education institutions.

  • Student bodies at online schools include a roughly comparable degree of racial diversity to conventional schools.


There just seems to be a small issue. On many occasions the instructor may have test, exams, quizes. And without the resources will anounce all will be open book.


With some time to prepare the remote learners computer, remote monitoring or proctering of exams is very possible.

Here are some prerequisites steps the proctor and instructor have to have in place prior to the exams release:


  • The specific requirements for participating in a remote exam monitored examination will depend on the examination's policies of the institution or organization that administers it.


  • Here are some of the common requirements that students may be required to meet: technical requirements: students may be required to have such technical requirements in place as a webcam, microphone, and a stable internet connection.


  • Setting of the test: students may be required to take the exam in a safe, well-lit location where they can be clearly seen and heard by the assessor on cam.


  • Identification: to verify their identity, students may be required to provide evidence of their identity, such as a driver's license, aadhar, college id card, or passport. We dont want a hired hand taken an exam for a student not prepared.


  • Student will be required to sign a testing agreement stating that they will follow the exam's guidelines and will not engage in any offensive conduct.


  • Familiarization with the system: to ensure that they are comfortable using the remote exam monitoring system before the exam, students may be required to familiarize themselves with it. (See the list of monitoring applications above. ) The instuctor will decide which of these systems best suits their needs.
